TL;DR
- China's 2026 Mid-Autumn holiday runs 25–27 September and the National Day holiday runs 1–7 October, both set in the State Council notice published on 4 November 2025. Die-cutting, wrapping and haulage stop for those days.
- Festival work on our floor is mostly rigid: magnetic flip boxes, drawer boxes, lid-and-base trays, and folding cake boxes with a window and handle, printed and laminated before the board is wrapped.
- Sampling takes 7 days, mass production 15 days from artwork and die approval, and a quotation holds for 7 days. A box that has to sail in the first week of October is decided in September.
If you are ordering gift boxes for the Mid-Autumn season or for a Q4 programme, the calendar decides more than the artwork does. This page gives the 2026 holiday dates, the box structures we run in Xiamen, and the details we need before a die is cut.
The 2026 calendar dates, and what they stop
The State Council's notice on the 2026 public holidays (guobanfamingdian No. 7 of 2025, published 4 November 2025) sets Mid-Autumn at 25–27 September 2026 and National Day at 1–7 October 2026, with Saturday 10 October designated a working day. Those dates sit on the gov.cn notice, not on a supplier's marketing page, which is why we cite it here rather than paraphrasing it.
What stops on those days is physical: the die-cutting line, the wrapping tables where rigid boxes get their printed sheet, insert cutting, and most of the trucking between Xiamen and the terminals. What does not stop is the sailing schedule.
Our experience, running this plant through holiday seasons, is that the week either side of the break is slower than the three days themselves. Haulage companies fill up before the holiday, customs queues build the day it reopens, and the first working day back is not a production day — it is a catching-up day. Customs houses publish their own schedules for the same window; Changzhou Customs posted its 2026 Mid-Autumn notice on 18 September. If your clearance day lands on 25–27 September, treat it as a day that has to be booked, not assumed.
One thing the notice does not do: it does not tell you our shutdown. A supplier's own arrangement can differ. Ask for it in writing with your order, and we will confirm ours the same way.
The festival boxes we actually run
The Mid-Autumn order is rarely a mooncake box in the confectionery sense for us; it is a gift box around a food, tea or gifting item, and most of it comes through as rigid work from the special gift box range.
A magnetic flip box is a wrapped rigid shell with a magnet closure that folds flat for freight, which matters when the boxes travel in a mixed container. A drawer box is a tray inside a sleeve with a ribbon pull. Both are built on paperboard that is printed, laminated and then wrapped, so the print is already fixed before the board is cut to the wrap size.
On the folding side we run cake boxes with a window and a handle from the cake box, sushi box and sandwich box range. A folding carton with a PVC or PET window is die-cut, creased and glued in one pass, and the window is patched on the same line — cheaper per unit than rigid work, and the right choice when the box is a carrier rather than a keepsake.
When we wrap a rigid box, the printed sheet is laminated first, matt or gloss, and then glued onto the board. On a design with one large dark solid, we push customers toward matt lamination with a spot UV instead of a gloss film. Gloss shows every scuff the box collects in a container, and by the time the lid lands on a shelf it looks handled. Matt hides it and the spot UV still gives the mark where the logo sits.
Magnet and ribbon positions are set in the sample, for the same reason we set the wrap direction at the same time: moving a magnet a few millimetres after the die exists means a new sample and another 7 days. If your artwork has a pattern that has to line up across the lid and the base, send it before sampling, not after.
When a festival gift box is the wrong purchase
Three cases where we tell buyers to spend their money elsewhere.
A rigid wrapped box holding one low-value item that the end buyer discards is cost and freight weight with no function — a kraft folding carton or a lidded tray from the cookies and candy box range does the same job for less. If the box is going into a mailer and then into a courier network, a rigid gift box does not save you: it protects corners from handling, not from a drop onto a concrete floor, and the outer carton still has to exist.
The third case is a date, not a box. If the goods have to be in your hands in the first week of October, the constraint is no longer our lead time. It is the port. In that situation a stock folding box beats a custom die, and shipping on a later sailing usually costs less than the air freight you would need to rescue the deadline.
What to send us before we cut a die
Five things decide whether a festival order moves: the three inner dimensions in millimetres (length, width, height), the weight and footprint of the contents, artwork as a vector file with fonts outlined, whether inserts are needed and what sits in each cavity, and the quantity with the destination port and the date the goods must be in hand. Send those and we can quote, sample and hold the run in the queue.
Our note on Q4 booking windows and October freight cut-offs covers the sailing side of the same problem, and the festival packaging blog collects the rest of the seasonal work.
Parameter table
| Item | What it is | Value |
|---|---|---|
| Sampling lead time | Die-line sample before a mass run, one construction | 7 days |
| Mass production | Counted from artwork and die approval, not from enquiry | 15 days |
| Quotation validity | Board, print and freight move; the number does not hold forever | 7 days |
| Mid-Autumn holiday, 2026 | National arrangement in the State Council notice | 25–27 September (3 days) |
| National Day holiday, 2026 | Same notice, the bigger of the two windows | 1–7 October (7 days) |
| Working Saturday | Designated working day in the same notice | 10 October 2026 |
| Box construction, rigid | Paperboard shell, printed sheet laminated and wrapped | Magnetic flip box, drawer box, lid-and-base tray |
| Box construction, folding | Kraft paper or paperboard, die-cut, creased and glued | Cake box with window and handle |
| Finishing on the sheet | Options we list on our product pages | Matt or gloss lamination, varnishing, UV coating, hot foil stamping, embossing |
| Minimum order quantity | Set by structure, size and print run | Confirmed on the drawing with the quote |
The two holiday windows come from the State Council notice of 4 November 2025; the construction and finishing rows are the fields published on our own product pages.
What buyers ask us in September
Can you make a mooncake gift box?
We build the box, not the confectionery tray. Send the outer dimensions of the tray you already buy and we build a rigid shell or a lid-and-base tray around it, so the tray drops in without a second die.
How long does a festival gift box take?
Sampling 7 days, mass production 15 days from artwork and die approval. The clock starts when the die and the artwork are approved, and a holiday break inside that window is not production time.
What is the MOQ on a rigid gift box?
It differs by structure, size and print run, so we confirm the number on the drawing rather than publishing one figure. Send the dimensions and we will put the quantity in the quote.
Will the October holiday delay my order?
If the artwork and die are approved before the break, the 15 days run after it. If they are approved during the break, the run only starts when the lines restart after it, and you are behind the orders that were already waiting.
Can the inside of the box be printed?
Yes. A wrapped rigid box takes a printed inner liner or a printed base, and a folding carton can be printed on the inside face. Send the design as two files so we set the knife and the print together.
Do you supply inserts?
We do, cut from board or foam to the cavities your contents need. Send the item dimensions, not a photo, because the cavity has to clear the item by hand, not by eye.
How long is your quote valid?
7 days from the date we send it.
The lead times and quotation validity above are our standing terms confirmed internally on 22 September 2026; the box constructions are the ones published in our special gift box range.
