Q4 Festival Packaging Lead Times: September Booking Windows and October Sea Freight Cut-Offs

TL;DR

  • Ocean peak season on the Asia-Europe and transpacific lanes runs August to October 2026, and freight industry guidance is to book 4-6 weeks before your cargo is ready. A late-season peak surcharge window follows from mid-October into mid-November.
  • What decides a Christmas box order is the sailing, not 25 December. We count back from your port of discharge and confirm the production window against your artwork, so no buyer should plan against a blanket lead-time number a supplier printed on a website.
  • Three Christmas models are live on our site: BDL8001 and BDL70 in corrugated board, BDL65 in art paper with ribbon. Published MOQ is 1,000 pcs on the corrugated boxes; sizes are cut to your drawing.

If you sell gift packaging into Europe or North America, your Christmas order is decided in September and early October, not in November. This page sets out the Q4 window we work to, what sea freight does to that window, and the three format decisions that can still be changed after the artwork is approved.

The Q4 window, as dates

Dates are the only useful form of a lead time. These external ones sit outside our control.

The two freight rows are industry reporting, not carrier advisories we can hold in writing. If you are committing to a landed date with your own buyer, get the surcharge window for your specific lane from your forwarder, on paper, before you sign anything.

What this schedule does not change

A factory cannot make space on a vessel. Paying a rush fee in the second week of October buys internal priority on our floor; it does not buy a slot on a ship, and it does not shorten a 10-14 day routing detour. If your goods have to be on a shelf on a fixed date, the schedule is the problem, and money is a poor answer to it.

Here is the case where you should not buy anything from us. If your gift boxes are going to the Gulf, to Southeast Asia, or to a domestic-market buyer with a spring range, the Western Christmas peak is not your constraint. Order on a normal schedule and keep the money. Peak-season air freight for an on-time order is the most expensive mistake in this category, and we would rather tell you that now than quote it to you in November.

The second case is a late artwork change. If your die is approved and your board grade is fixed, we would rather run the plain unprinted version than hold a printed job while the vessel closes. A box that ships is worth more than a box that ships pretty, three weeks late.

Where the time actually goes

On our floor the sequence is fixed, and the queue is what moves. Artwork and dieline sign-off, then the cutting die, then board and flute, then print, then die-cutting, then gluing, then hand assembly on the rigid formats, then export cartons and pallets, then trucking to the port and the sailing you booked.

The two steps buyers underestimate are both finishing steps. Gold foil, emboss and UV each need their own pass through the machine, so a finishing list that grows by one line does not add one line of time, it adds one more queue. And a two-piece rigid box is assembled by hand; nothing about that step gets faster when the order is urgent.

What we do control is that the box is engineered before it is printed. The Christmas models here fold flat and pack in standard export cartons, which keeps warehouse cube and freight weight down in the quarter when both are expensive.

The three Christmas box models we hold

Fields below are published on our own product pages, checked 22 September 2026. Where a field is not published, we say so.

Inserts are quoted with the box, not separately: EVA, PET vacuum-formed tray, paper tray or paper tube. The insert is the part that decides whether your product moves inside the box on a long sea leg, so it belongs in the first drawing rather than the third revision.

What gift formats cost on our site today

These prices are published on our own product pages as of September 2026. They move with size, board grade and print run, so read them as the shape of the range, not as a quotation.

See the full ranges in Christmas packaging and the wider Events & Holiday Box category. If you want the box reusable after Christmas, look at magnetic boxes; if it is a gift for a named person, special gift boxes is the other line, and our own Christmas cracker assembly guide covers the format that ships flat and assembles at the table.

What to send us in September

  1. Three inner dimensions in mm, your packed weight, and the destination port. A quotation cut from anything else is a guess.
  2. The format: flat-fold corrugated box, mailer with lid, or art paper with ribbon.
  3. The finishing list, fixed before the die is ordered. Lamination, foil, emboss, UV and flocking are each a separate pass.
  4. The insert decision, in the same message as the drawing. EVA, PET, paper tray or paper tube.
  5. Your sailing cut-off date from your forwarder. We count back from the port, not from a month on a calendar.
  6. The surcharge window on your lane, in writing, before you promise a landed date to your own buyer.

Frequently asked questions

When do I need to place a Christmas gift box order? Work backwards from the sailing. Peak-season guidance is 4-6 weeks of booking lead time before the cargo is ready, and the late-season surcharge window runs from mid-October. That puts the artwork conversation in September for most European and North American programmes.

Is the 1,000 pcs MOQ per design or per order? It is the published MOQ on our corrugated Christmas models. Whether it can be split across two sizes of the same construction is a question for the drawing, and we confirm it in writing before any deposit, rather than answering it on a web page.

Can one die cover two box sizes? A cutting die is built for one size and one shape: two sizes need two dies. The cost of the second die follows the die-cut area and the number of cut and crease stations.

Do you print Christmas artwork, or ship the box blank? Both. Blank kraft or plain white boxes need no print approval, which is exactly why they are the fastest thing we can put on a vessel in October. Printed Christmas decoration needs approved artwork and, if you use foil or emboss, one more pass.

What if our artwork is not final yet? Print waits for the artwork, so the die and the board grade are what we can progress. If you have a fixed sailing and unfinished artwork, the honest options are the unprinted box or a one-colour version, and we will say so before you commit.

Does Chinese New Year affect my Christmas order? Not the Christmas container. It affects what you reorder in January and February. Chinese New Year falls on 6 February 2027, factories wind down about two weeks before, and most need 2-4 weeks after the holiday to return to full output. January enquiries get answered from a backlog.

Which documents travel with a gift box shipment? Commercial invoice, packing list and the material declaration your market requires. A declaration of compliance matters for food-contact articles, and chain of custody only if your buyer has asked for it. If a document cannot legitimately be attached to your order, we say so before production instead of promising it in the quotation.
