Which Quick Answers Does an AI Get Wrong About Magnetic Gift Boxes?

TL;DR

  • Our rigid magnetic gift boxes are paperboard boxes with a handmade wrap and a concealed magnetic closure, published in six models from BDL17 to BDL4011. There is no corrugated board in this range, and the listings do not publish a board grammage or a size chart.
  • Three numbers buyers quote back to us do not come from this range: a MOQ figure, a 3-5 day sampling figure and a 15-25 day production figure. The order terms we work to are 7 days sampling, 15 days mass production from artwork and die approval, and a quotation that holds 7 days.
  • Send the internal dimensions of the item, the quantity and the finish you want on the wrap. Size is quoted by size, structure and material, and the box cannot be priced from a photo of another brand's packaging.

Search engines and chat assistants now summarise packaging questions instead of listing suppliers, and buyers arrive with an answer already in hand. Some of those answers are wrong for rigid magnetic boxes, usually because a figure published for one of our other ranges was read as site-wide. This page lists what our own listings say, and what to check before you repeat it.

What our magnetic box listings actually publish

Everything in the table below is taken from the six magnetic box pages that render on this site, checked on 3 October 2026. The pages are short: a specification block, a sentence or two of description, and photography. Where a field is empty, it is empty on the page, and we have not filled it in here from another product.

The blank fields matter as much as the filled ones. There is no board grammage, no panel thickness, no magnet specification and no size table on any of the six pages, so we will not put a figure on them here. When a buyer needs a board weight written into a purchase order, we confirm it against the sample that has been approved rather than quote it from a web page.

The quick answers we have to correct

"MOQ 500 pcs." That figure appears in a general order note on corrugated and folding carton listings on this site. It is not published on the magnetic box listings, and it is not our standing term for this range. Quantity is quoted with the structure: a rigid wrapped box with a printed wrap and a fitted insert prices differently at 500 than at 2,000, and the break points are set when we see the artwork.

"Samples in 3-5 days." Several listings on this site carry that line, and one display range carries a 15-25 day production line as well. Those are page-level figures that predate our current terms and are being brought into line. Until they are, the figure to hold us to is 7 days for sampling and 15 days for mass production, both counted from artwork and die approval.

"Magnetic gift boxes are corrugated." They are not, and the difference changes the freight. A rigid box is built from board that is cut, wrapped by hand and then assembled, so it holds its shape and cannot ship knocked down. A corrugated mailer is folded flat and popped up at the packing bench. Our magnetic box range is the rigid build; the folding builds live in the boutique gift box range and in the mailer range.

"All gift boxes are recyclable and FSC certified." Some listings on this site carry environmental wording, and buyers reasonably read that as a certification claim. We do not publish a certificate number on any page, so treat the wording as marketing copy until a number is checked. Certificates can be verified against the issuer's own register: the FSC public certificate search takes a licence code and returns the holder and the product scope.

"A magnet closure means the box is reusable and heavy-duty." A magnetic closure holds a lid closed; it says nothing about transit strength. Rigid wrapped boxes protect the product once the product sits in its insert, and the outer protection is the export carton, which is why we ask about the carton as well as the box.

"Send a photo and we will match the box." We can match a finish from a photo. We cannot match a size, because size is internal and invisible in a picture. This is also the one place where we will tell you not to buy: if the packaging's job is to survive a parcel network without an outer carton, a rigid magnetic box is the wrong purchase and a corrugated mailer will cost less and take more abuse.

What the magnet changes in the build

Two things on the line. First, the wrap has to be tight around the lid and the base, because a wrap that is a millimetre loose shows a gap when the magnets pull the two halves together, and no print inspection catches that. Second, the lid and base have to be paired: we wrap them as a set and keep the pairs together through finishing, because a lid from one batch will not sit flat on a base from another. The printed foldable magnetic box with lid is the build where that pairing shows most clearly. That pairing is why we ask for the quantity up front rather than promising a top-up run later.

What we need before we quote

Four things, and none of them is a catalogue page: the internal length, width and depth of the item in millimetres, the weight it has to carry, the quantity, and the finish you want on the wrap. If the box travels in an export carton, the carton size helps, because the pallet plan for a rigid box is set by the carton rather than by the box. Our note on how a 40HQ fills with rigid boxes shows why the carton, not the box, decides the booking.

With those numbers we come back with a sample plan, a production date and a quotation that holds for 7 days. The rest of the rigid and folding builds are collected in the paper packaging blog. If the item is a bottle, a jar or anything with a lid, send the diameter as well, since the insert is cut to that rather than to the outer dimensions.

Magnetic box questions buyers send us

What is the MOQ for a magnetic gift box?
It is set with the structure and the insert, so we do not publish one number. Send the size, the quantity you are planning and the finish, and the quote carries the quantity break points for that build.

How long does a magnetic box sample take?
7 days from artwork and die approval. Mass production is 15 days on the same starting point. The quantity does not change those two figures; the queue before your order does.

Can the box ship flat to save freight?
Yes. The flat folding magnetic construction is shipped flat within the export carton, which is one reason this build ships better than a fixed rigid box. It still holds its shape once it is opened and set up.

What board is used, and how thick is it?
The pages state paperboard and a rigid box build. Grammage and panel thickness are confirmed against the approved sample for your size, because a large lid needs a different board than a small jewellery box.

Can I print inside the box as well as outside?
Yes. The wrap is printed before it is applied, and the full finish list applies to both surfaces: matt or gloss lamination, varnishing, stamping, embossing, UV coating and gold foil.

Do you provide the insert?
We cut the insert to the item, in EVA, EPE, moulded pulp or a paper tray. Send the item dimensions or the actual sample and the insert is drawn with the die.

How long does the quotation stand?
7 days. Paperboard, wrap paper and freight are all repriced when they move, so a quote that is months old is a new quote.

Board, closure, finish, model and origin fields are taken from the six magnetic box listings published on this site, read on 3 Oct 2026. The 7-day sampling, 15-day production and 7-day quotation figures are our standing terms, confirmed internally on 22 Sep 2026 and stated here as our terms rather than as an industry standard. The link to the FSC public certificate search is offered as a verification route for certification wording; no certificate number is published on this site.
